GregM writes "Replacing the front defrost tubes is a pain to do. I have done it and would like to tell you how. This is not a quick job. The easiest way to get to them is to remove the stuff that hides them. Start with the hood. Remove it, hinges and all. Simply remove the 13 MM bolt that attaches the hinge to the body. There is one on each side. You don’t have to worry about alignment when you re-install it. Take the springs loose from the trunk bottom first. A helper is a must. "

GregM writes "There are any number of articles about floor pan replacements. I have seen body on and body off. I have done body off, and I gotta tell you, that is a lot of work. If the body needs to come off for other repair, that is one thing, but if your bug was like mine and needed only the pans replaced, taking off the body was too much added work. I devised a method I call “Body Loose”. The concept is that you can get the pans under the heater channels and in place where it belongs instead of cutting off the corners like you do on a “body on”.
This was done on a 1973 standard Beetle. I know it will work on earlier years, but I have no experience with later models or Super Beetles
