I have a lot of questions about that. I just can't see how a second spark plug would change the output of that engine by any significant margin even if it's intended to be a "lagging" spark to try to benefit from any unburnt fuel.

here's the kicker. it's a Porsche engine. probably from a 356. iv got a feeling it may be a redundancy/backup for endurance racing. but really im just guessing here.

Oh I bet you're right, a redundant system like in a plane. Smart thinking but so complex for a 4 cylinder lawn mower. Love that exhaust though!
