I might be wrong but I think that second one is a wood-burning Keubel that they were testing so the military could travel through places that they couldn't get petrol to fuel their vehicles.

there wasn't a description with the pic, but the pic is named "1944 Volkswagen Type 82 Wood Gas Generator"
has me wondering how that works. steam engine? burning stuff and turning it into electricity? it's interesting, i wonder if there are any still around today
