And it's got a bad lope to it :)

With the goal of getting Zippy to Virginia, I needed to squish the two halves together so I can fill it with parts, load it up on an auto transport trailer and hooked to the back of the latest UHaul truck. The issue is that the bottom half of him was in the basement, trapped behind a well-fastened door.

Door out and pan seeing unfiltered light for the first time in close to 8 years:

One thing to note, this is not a proper assembly, things just got bolted together until I can get it there and get some metal welded in on the body. Once I get to the new place, the lift should make quick work of getting the two separated long enough to get the metal welded in. Nonetheless, seeing it together took my breath away and almost brought me to tears.

All bolted together and waiting for the trailer.

Re: Build: Zippy the Wonderbug

I just love looking at it. Even though I know it's got to come right back apart, seeing him together really did a lot for my heart.

A kind of funny thing, I had to lie to the truck/trailer rental because they only allow certain vehicles on their trailers. We told them Chloe's Altima is going on it but in reality, this little half-assembled and full of parts beetle is going to get pushed on to it :)

I love it! Zipp's waiting patiently for me in the garage. There was a small detour time-wise and it's going to be a couple weeks at least before I can tackle anything physically so he's just hanging out in the dry :)

Re: Build: Zippy the Wonderbug

So I have a new ebay search alert set up. Zippy will one day have a coffee maker.

This is cool - I really like the idea. And it works for tea too!
Now to find some some nice coffee sacks for the intended burlap interior!
May be you're about to define the "café (racer) cruiser" genre for the Bugs. :D
