A day in the life...

So I don't clog up our car photos topic, I thought it would be interesting to start a topic to share an image taken during the course of our day that might be funny or just interesting in nature. Feel free to participate if you happen to carry a picture-taking device on you while out and about for the day!

I'll start:

My boots purchased in Dec 92. They still feel great and there's not much visual wear on them:

My wife gets a bit angry that I went vegan on her. Sometimes, I send photos like this to her just to get her hopes up:

These boots look great, very well groomed!
Be careful with that bacon!

Believe it or not - I don't own a smartphone and use my cellphone on rare occasions only (it hasn't even a cam). :D
So most likely there's not too much I can contribute here...

But today during lunch break I took the "Vamp" out for a spin with my digicam in the pocket.

It looks like a lot of that wooden structure didn't quite make the cut. Your Focus is looking like brand new(as expected ;)). Have I shown you a pic of my fatbike? I'm not sure if I have or not yet.

We're shoe-twinsies! I'll post some of my other Docs. I've got the wingtips I wore on my wedding day that still look like new as well.

Went to visit the neurologist today. It's a 4 hour round trip through Nantahala gorge. Spring is here, stuff is green and I came across some machines replacing railroad ties and a couple dogs that were testing the air:

The Jeep was in dire need of brakes so thinking that the ground had dried out enough, I went to tackle the front first. I also installed leveling/lift blocks.

1) The ground was not dry enough.

2) The race between the sinking jacks and getting the wheels back on is on!

Bless cheap spring compressors.

I think these are the polyurethane (?) lift spacers.
Will the stock shocks work with such a set up?
Or do you have to change to longer shocks or modify the mount may be?

They are and I've got a browser tab open with this page open. 3" additional length is really too much to ask of the stock shocks but I wanted to drive it a bit and see if I need them before I spend the money.

If I understand the setup correctly the overall suspension travel will remain stock with the lift kit?
The springs and suspension parts remain stock and just the body is lifted?

In this case the stock shocks can be extended somehow may be?

Like cutting off the bottom shock eye and extend the shock housing with a piece of tube
and weld the eye back on that extension tube...

Welding may be tricky because to much heat may damage the shock.

So what do you think about this bushwah brain fart? :D

I bet if someone were better at welding, they could do that but I'm sure I'd either create a shrapnel bomb or just total out the stuff in the compressed portion.

Plus, I'd probably manage to outprice the cost of the shocks I posted :)

I already figured that welding a shock may be total moonshine...
I tend to unnecessarily complicate things sometimes... :D

Now for something more unnecessary...
A pic taken last Saturday when visiting Mom & Dad.

My first Docs acquired in1985 (if my memory serves me right).
Obviously not as well groomed as yours.
They remain at my parents home and I still wear them at times.

Oh, they look comfy! I just noticed that we lace them the same way as well. Perhaps that's common for Docs?

We went to look at the college campus Chloe will likely be going to. On the way there, a rafting company shows a bit of their royal side:

This is at the entrance of the college:

And anytime we come back through this way, we usually stop at the Nantahala Outdoor Center to grab something to eat:

The girls indeed look sort of freezing and/or annoyed = HUNGRY! :D

Had a closer look at your lacing and it seems you're using this Straight Bar Lacing or may be the Commando Lacing.
I use the Straight European Lacing. An old shoemaker showed it to me years ago when I was a teenager because
I often twisted my ankle during my incredible (short) soccer career.

Who knew there were so many types? It seems I'm a fan of the straight bar lacing :)

Speaking of shoes(not straight-bar):

nice shoes, you going to the bosstones concert later
seriously though, bosstones kick ass!
also used to rock the straight bar lacing myself back in the day. then i got to lazy to re-lace my shoes when i got them and now it's just whatever.

you never learn nothin by mistake if you're to careful.
bad decisions make good memories.

I love me some Mighty mighties.

Yesterday, I replaced my wood block holding up the passenger window with an actual regulator. Today was the rear brakes and lift pucks. Went much easier than the front:

Spring is here!

Nice vid. I also like the peek of that construction at the backyard (sort of a carport?) posted in the earlier pics.

Changed from winter to summer wheels on the Audi yesterday.
Bad premonition has proven: road salt took its toll on the brakes.
They still work but the disks as well as the calipers are badly corroded. :?
Looks like everything has to be replaced... I was too frustrated to take any pics of that mess...

Road salt. I can't tell you how happy I am that we don't get enough inclement weather here to need it. I just can't imagine sacrificing vehicles to it.

Today wasn't very exciting but it was relaxing. Only one fallen tree to cut up. Got to feeling bad during the ride so missed the final two loops of the trails but still a very enjoyable day.

These are hefty wheels. How do they handle?
The weapon of choice on soft ground I guess...

It's a fun bike to learn to ride. Since the bike doesn't have any suspension to speak of, air pressure is magic. Too much pressure can make it a misery(violent shocks up the arms), too little and you either pinchflat or roll the tire right off the rim on turns but getting it right makes it the most fun bike I've ever ridden. The added weight and tire patch makes it slower on the uphills but I don't mind as I gained more winter weight than my bike did :)

The only reasons this type of bike exists is "snow biking" and riding during bad weather. It's the only thing it excels at. It's heavier, slower, handles more poorly. Most people who buy one hang it in their garage to ride it twice a year. The guy who I bought mine from bought it in 2014, rode it three times and sold it to me for 1/5 of what he bought it for.

This will be my ride for the whole year. I think of it like I do the Bronco. It's worse at everything that I use it for but I don't care. It's fun.

I apologize for the incoming bike spam:

Wow - serious daredevil action is going on here!! Mrs. Maddel would go berserk at this sight.
A few of her unbelieving comments on the pic:

Me: "Schau mal, Jason bastelt..."
She: "Aha... Ein Fahrrad... Im Wohnzimmer!!? Das lehnt doch an der Couch, oder nicht!??
Ach und das Werkzeug liegt gleich daneben. Und ist das eine Tube Fett dort vor dem Schrank, oder was??!
Das ist doch Teppich! Alle Achtung!!"

It was too funny! :D ;)

To your lovely wife: Ich bastele im Wohnzimmer, weil meine Frau mich nicht im Schlafzimmer basteln lässt.

My wife bought me a coffee cup!

pffft... you call that a bike? this is a bike!

Ha, ha... You made her laugh! One perfect reply - in every respect! 8-)

Back then when I met her for the first time (or so) one of the thinks I asked her was: "Bastelst du eigentlich gerne?" :D
Later she revealed she had no clue what I was actually talking about...
Like taking a Bug apart entirely or improvement of accommodation (to name a few)...
One of her commonly used phrase today: "Ah, du gehst basteln?!" :)

Regarding the bike pics: it seems there is sort of a BMX revival going on....
